Beaded Pluto: First Post

I mentioned a few posts back that I had started working on another beaded project.  This is the piece I designed for Pluto that is similar to the one I made for Chip 'n Dale.

To the right is the image I used to make my pattern.  However, I did not do the extreme shading they did in the image.  I wanted him to look more "old school" like the original animations.

This one is a bit simpler than Chip 'n Dale.  I was thinking of adding a bone in the upper left hand corner as I had added the acorn in Chip 'n' Dale, but I didn't like the way it looked and eventually abandoned that idea.

So I started off with a bang, 41 rows completed.  Granted quite a few of those were only two colors, but still, it was quick.

When I started working on Pluto I slowed down a bit.

And then I took a break.  And today I worked on a whole bunch.

Completed Project Add: Bead Weaving - Pink Playboy Bunny

This project was made for a friend I worked with.  I made her this and she made me something in return.

She liked pink and she liked the playboy bunny, this is what I came up with:

I am not going to link to the Playboy site in my project stats.  But I believe he turned out well.  Or is the bunny a she?  You know, I never thought about it until now.

Beaded Chip 'n Dale: Third Post - Complete

I'm happy to say that I've completed Chip 'n Dale!  I took some time off after my last round of working on them, but picked it up two days ago.

I actually only did two rows the day after my last post on them, which looked like this:

Completed Project Add: Bead Weaving - John Deere Logo

This is the fourth piece that is similar to the other pieces I've been posting recently.

This one wasn't made to be a tapestry, I don't know what I had planned for it when I made it, I don't actually think I had a plan, but it kind of looks like a coaster.  I'm pretty sure I was using my beading program at this point.

My grandfather sold farm equipment, mostly John Deere, so it seemed fitting.  The background is a very nice kelly green, I'm not sure why it looks kind of teal in the picture.

Beaded Chip 'n Dale: Second Post

Well, I really haven't been doing much crafting.  Computer games took up some of my time, work is taking up most.  Monday night I finally got into the mood to work on something and that something was my beaded Chip 'n Dale.  So I pulled it out.

The first picture is after a short night of work.  I only did 4 rows from the previous picture, but you can see the beginnings of Dale's foot.

As of August 18, 2013, 70 rows.

I put as of August 18th on this, but, honestly, I have no idea when I actually did these four rows.  I just put that date since I picked it up on the 19th, so technically this is how it looked on the 18th before I worked on it again.

So here's what I did after a long break:

This time I stopped just as Chip's foot was becoming visible.

And I did quite a bit more today.

As of August 20, 1013, 100 rows.

I wasn't going to do this much, but I was close to the end of the tan color so I kept beading until the row that contained the last bead of that color was added.

Completed Project Add: Bead Weaving - Carquinez Mascot

This is the third of the three very similar beading projects that I made for my family.

I think this might be my favorite. I like the design that I came up with for the bottom edge.

This is the mascot for the middle school I attended and my mother worked at.  I really think he came out well, he's the same size as the one I gave to my sister, 2" (50mm) wide by 2.75" (73mm) tall.  I was worried when I started designing it.  I hadn't made too many at this point, as he was my third, but I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of detail I was able to get by just using the beads.  You may be able to notice I had to make the top few rows narrower to fit between the finials on the bar.  It's a little shorter than the others, but I thought it worked best of the four styles for this design

Completed Project Add: Bead Weaving - Hampton Logo

I'm sorry to say I've been in a slump after my last post.  There's just so much backstitching on it and so I kind of hit a mental block.  I need to work through it and I know I will, but in the meantime, I have a complete post:

This is the second of the three similar beading projects that I made for my family.

I believe this is the second one I designed and made.  I think by this time I was using Adobe Illustrator to create designs.  It was clunky for what I was doing, but it worked better than Excel.

This was a gift for my sister.  It's the logo of the company both she, and I, used to work for.  It's 2" (50mm) wide by 2.75" (73mm) tall, and I think this one looks pretty good as a mini tapestry, the shape of the logo just seems to work perfectly.  The mini bar that I wanted to use with this one wasn't the color I wanted it to be.  I probably used two or three different kinds of paint to change it from gold to silver before one of them finally stuck, literally.

Completed Project Add: Bead Weaving - YEI Logo

This is the first of three very similar beading projects that I made for my family.  There's a fourth with a similar theme, but different style.

This is the first one I designed and made.  At the time I didn't have the beading program that I now use, so it's rather rough.  Believe it or not, I actually used Excel to make the original pattern, but the problem was I made the beads square in my spreadsheet, and they're not perfectly square in real life.  I don't remember when I bought the program, but I do remember that I had to change this pattern because the original pattern made the circle more of an oval, and looked really strange.  I'm just not sure if I redid the pattern in Illustrator or Beadtool.

The circle with the YEi in it is the logo of the company my dad worked for and recently retired from.  It's not very big, about 2" (50mm) wide, by 2.5" (63mm) tall, not including the bar and chain.  The little bar was part of a pack of four bars on clearance at Michaels and was made for scrapbooking, but I thought it'd be perfect, and I think it worked out well.

Beaded Chip 'n Dale: First Post

I've been wanting to work on this one for a while.  I love Disney, really, what's not to love?  A while back I created a bunch of charts with Disney characters, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip 'n Dale & Tinkerbell.  I took some images I found and made them into beading charts.  My two favorites out of them were Pluto and Chip 'n Dale.  To the right is the image I used to make Chip 'n Dale.

All the cartoons I remember had them as the same color so that's how I'm going to make them, plus there aren't a lot of browns in Delicas.  Chip and Dale will be made from shiny beads, while the background will be matte beads.

I decided to start on this when I ran out of one of the bead colors I needed for Logan.  While creating this pattern the upper left corner seemed a little bare so I added an acorn.  You can see a little bit more than half of it in the first progress picture.

As of March 31, 2013, 25 rows.

Now you can see all of the acorn, their eyes, and Dale's red nose has appeared.

As of April 1, 2013, 50 rows.

I didn't get as much done today as I have been getting done, but their heads are now complete.

Beaded Logan: First Post

I currently have an overdue Christmas present for my sister.  I have already "given" it to her but it is not complete.

I know I've mentioned my adorable nephew before, well, when this project is completed it will hopefully look how my nephew did at the age of 4 months, the actual picture I'm using is to the right.  He's even more adorable now at the age of 2, but I'm his aunt, I'm a little biased.

Now, I think I should explain this a little further.  Growing up our mother had two pictures, one of my sister and one of myself, both at the age of about 1 year, or was it 2?  A family friend painted them and my grandparents framed them.  I thought how cool would it be to do something like that for my sister with my nephew.  Well, I can't paint all that well, so I decided to bead it.

This is created by weaving together different colored beads.  One row is done at a time working down the pattern.  I stopped working on this for a while because I didn't like the way he looked at me.  Seriously, the chart I made for this, his eyes looked eerie.  Well, I've decided to suck it up and hope it looks much better in actual beads than in the computer generated version.  I love the program I used to make the pattern, but sometimes the colors can be a bit off, but that's to be expected.

I know most, if not all, of my readers are cross stitchers, so I decided to explain this a little bit better.  To the right is a close up of the beading so you can see the individual beads a bit better.  Each bead is added one at a time and sewn into place with a thin thread.  The whole picture is 150 beads wide, but each row has 75 beads, so while the whole project has 288 rows, it's only 144 beads tall.

Below is my "workstation".  I recently got some new tables to work off of so beading has become easier.  The beads come in the tubes that you see laying on the tray.  It's actually a tray for laying out necklaces and bracelets, but it works perfectly for my purposes.  I line up the beads one row at a time in the groove at the bottom of the picture.  The flesh tones are near the bottom and the background colors are in the triangular trays toward the top.  I have no idea why the round furniture pads are on there... ignore those.

I'm currently using 8 colors in the project, 4 background colors and 4 flesh colors.  I think there are 10 more colors in the chart.  I say "think" because I don't remember and the graphic chart I made was one of the things lost when my hard drive crashed.  Luckily the word chart survived so I didn't have to recreate it.  I am planning on putting it back into the program, but that is going to take quite a bit of time.

I'm working on this during the day, and I think I'm going to do some crocheting at night.  Considering practically everything else on this website has been cross stitch, the next few posts are going to be dramatically different from normal.
