Mel's Crochet Blanket - Completed

I realized that I did not have a birthday present for my sister whose birthday was at the end of April.  I had some yarn that I bought over a year and a half ago for a blanket for her.  I decided to finally make the blanket.

I went through a book that was given to me, "The Crochet Stitch Bible" and found a pattern that I liked.  I crocheted the first two skein, then found a mistake in the first skein, which I was going to leave, but the more I thought about it the more it bugged me.  So about ¾ of the work came out and I continued on.

I made up the border based on the rest of the pattern.  I will say borders are still my weakest part.  I appear to not space my stitches very well, they never lay flat, but blankets rarely lay flat, so most people won't notice.  The overall size ended up being 4.5' x 6' (1.37m x 1.82m).

My sister's birthday was on the 28th, so I was very proud of myself getting it done on time.  She has informed me that it is very warm.  Too bad summer is just around the corner, but there's still a little bit of time to use it before it gets too warm at night.

Vacation Scarfs - Completed

Well, I just got back from vacation.  I wore my new shawl to dinner one night, however, my older nephew fell asleep during dinner and we ended up using it as a pillow for him.

Since my youngest nephew seemed to like the scarf I made for my sister/his mother, I decided to make him one.  And working on crocheting on vacation is much easier than working on cross stitch.  So I actually made him a scarf on the first day.

As I was working on the scarf for the younger nephew the older one asked me what I was doing, and I told him I was making a scarf for his brother and asked if he'd like one too and he said yes, so I had another project to work on while on vacation.

I made up a pattern since I didn't take any extra patterns with me so I just made up a pattern for this scarf:

I didn't work on Ophelia at all, it was just so  much easier to work on crocheting.  But I will hopefully have an update soon on her anyway.

Lacy Shawl - Complete

I'm going on a little vacation soon so I decided I wanted to make myself a shawl for the trip.  I found some really pretty yarn and a pattern that I liked at work.

And I took absolutely no progress pictures, every time I was thinking to take one I was in the middle of crocheting and didn't want to stop, so here it is complete:

It's 7ft long and 20 inches wide, 2.13m long and 51cm wide.  I folded it in half to make taking the picture easier.

I ended up using 4 and a little bit of the 6 skeins I bought, and now it's packed and ready for my trip.

Here's another completed project, this time a crochet.  My family's next door neighbor made lots of filet crochet and I always loved it.  She even had a pattern to make names into doilies and has made them for everyone in our family.

Here's the pattern I found, our neighbor's pattern was much more ornate.  I made this for a previous manager of mine.  She got married so I made her a crocheted doily with her married name.

It is supposed to be a rectangle, but it was my first attempt, so I was pleased that it somewhat resembles a rectangle.

Nephew 2's Blanket: Fifth Post - Complete

Yay, I beat my nephew.  He's still being stubborn, but his blanket is ready for him when he decides he wants to see the outside world.

Nephew 2's Blanket: Fourth Post

I've been slacking on working on this for quite a while now, but since my sister believes she's going to have my nephew at any instant, I've been working on his blanket.  I must have it done before he's born!

I finished up all the rows:

All I have left is the border.  I'm already about ¾ of the way done with the border, and I did finish up the fourth skein while working on the border.  I really wanted to finish, but I needed a break, my brain and my hands were just done.  I should finish it up Sunday when I get home from work.

Since I wanted to make sure the two blankets were as identical as I could make them, I borrowed the blanket I made for my first nephew, Logan.  We were all at my parents house and I took them with me to work on, I was laying them both out on the floor and Logan started helping me smooth them out and get them flat.  Then he laid down on his blanket and just started saying "I love my blanket" over and over again:

I became rather speechless and insanely happy, so I took a picture and I gave him a big hug.

Nephew 2's Blanket: Third Post

This weekend I was around my sister quite a bit more than I thought I would.  So instead of finishing the backstitching on the cross stitch (her christmas gift), I worked on my unborn nephew's blanket and finished another skein.

For the eagle eyed and good memory people out there, yes I took the picture is upside down, but when I flipped it right side up it looked strange, so I left it the way it was.

Nephew 2's Blanket: Second Post

I got through another skein.  This is really coming along quickly.  It took me much longer to make the last blanket.

I laid it on top of the other blanket and it is looking a little less than 50%, if you include the edging.  We'll see if I can keep up this pace or if I need to change to something else.  Her Special Place is staring at me, almost begging me to finish up the current color, then she might be put away for a little bit.  I'd like to knock off a few of the small items on my WIP, that page is really starting to get out of control! :)

Nephew 2's Blanket: First Post

Before I started this blog I had made a blanket for my nephew before he was born.  It was the first "large" crochet project I had ever done.  I had made a scarf for my mother... I need to find that and photograph it... but never anything as large as a blanket.  It didn't come out perfectly rectangular, but I think it looks pretty good:

Well, now I have a second nephew on its way, and I know I can't not make him one too.  I decided to use the same pattern so they're the same size, and I just really like the pattern.  However, this time I'm using a different color yarn so that they can tell the two apart.  The yarn arrived last Thursday.

This time, since I know it's a boy before starting, I got the blue and green yarn called Swim.

I started working on it Sunday and got pretty far in one night (It's laying on my lap):

Today I finished one of the skeins.  It will be a total of 4 to 5 skeins
